Honeymoon in Greece – 9 days

Greece has been on both of our individual bucket lists for as long as we can remember. So when it was time for us to choose a honeymoon destination, it was a no brainer! Other than wanting to marry each other, we’ve never come to an agreement so fast! Greece has so much to offer: unbelievably gorgeous beaches, unique architecture, rich history and delicious cuisine. It’s such a large country that one trip is not nearly enough to experience the entirety of its beauty, but for 9 days we were able to get a small sample, and we have no regrets (except for not having more vacation days to stay longer). During our 9 days in Greece we visted: Santorini, Crete and Athens.

We traveled to Crete by ferry from the Santorini to Heraklion port. It was super easy to book ferry tickets using ferryhopper.com. From Heraklion, we took a cab to Agia Pelagia, where our hotel was located, for approximately 30 euro. The ferry ride was approximately 2 hours. There was food and drinks available on the ferry at concession bars located at each end. The ride was smooth and seemed to go by quickly. The seats are relatively comfortable as well.

Crete is a very large island, one of the largest Greek Islands, so we were not able to explore all of it within the limited 3 days that we had to spend there. We definitely plan to return to visit the other sides of the island that we did not get to see. For our limited time we only visited the area of Agia Pelagia and Heraklion. Because of the gorgeous, relaxing place we chose to stay, we spent majority of our time there in a quiet oasis, relaxing. Acro Wellness Suites

We stayed at Acro Wellness Suites, located in Agia Pelagia, a small seaside resort area. This resort is unlike any other that we’ve stayed at. It is so relaxing, breathtaking and rejuvenating. The experience begins from the moment you step foot onto the property. We were greeted by hotel hosts outfitted in long soft green robes who carried our luggage up to the reception area. Once in the reception area we were given their special made matcha green tea, which was delicious. In the reception area we were given a brief introduction to the facilities while taking in the view from the floor to ceiling windows surrounding the room. The host then gave us a tour of the grounds which include a state of the art gym with showers and lockers, three different restaurants, a small bar/lounge area, a spa, an infinity pool and private beach access! We were literally in heaven! After the tour, the host led us to our cave suite.

Cave Suite

We booked one of the Cave Suites, which includes a private outdoor pool, a gorgeous cave view of the Mediterranean, his and hers robes with slippers, a rainfall shower with an elegant free standing tub, and fully stocked mini bar and Nespresso. We ordered room service for our first meal in the area so we wouldn’t have to leave this gorgeous room. The room service food was pretty tasty.

Our second day at Acro Wellness was spent exploring the resort. We worked out in the gym, which was fully equipped with free weights, weight machines, cardio equipment, an indoor pool and the most amazing view. After the gym, we went to Cremnos, one of the onsite restaurants, for lunch (which we had also visited for breakfast). The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Once again, the views from the floor to ceiling glass walls was breathtaking. After lunch, we chilled out in the loungers on the terrace surrounding the infinity pool. Acro Wellness is the perfect place to relax and connect with yourself, your partner or friends.

Complimentary Breakfast

Breakfast is included with a room booked at Acro. The complimentary breakfast is a full buffet of various fruit, oats, pastries, and proteins. There is also a limited list of items that are made to order, such as an omelet. The food was fresh and made with quality ingredients and care.

Acro Fitness

Ephraim and I had been itching to get into the gym since being on this vacation and the gym at Acro did not disappoint! It was fully equipped with everything you would need to workout with a bonus breathtaking view. The gym also offers scheduled group fitness classes throughout the day. The schedule is given at the reception desk as well as in the room.

Infinity Pools and Loungers

A Greek resort would not be fully complete without an infinity pool, and Acro does not disappoint. The infinity pool at Acro elevates the calming, breathtaking vibes of the resort. It is situated at the edge of the property so that it seems to flow directly into the gorgeous blue waters of the Mediterranean below. Surrounding the infinity pool there is a central terrace lined with gabanas and lounge chairs, which feel like you’re laying on a cloud. It was the perfect place to come and lay, destress and just relax after a long day of exploring, eating, and working out.

Weather in Greece

The weather in Greece during our visit was mild and ranged between the low 50s to low 70s, depending on location. We visited in mid April, just at the beginning of Greek tourist season. In Santorini, with the chilly weather, we were thankful that the pools were heated, so we were able to enjoy them. The pools at Acro, in Crete, were not heated, so we did not dive in here since it wasn’t quite hot enough. Not getting into the pools though did not damper our enjoyment one bit. We simply used them as gorgeous backdrops to our photos! The warmest place during our trip was Athens, which was our final destination on our honeymoon.

Private Beach Access – Agia Pelagia

Another bonus with Acro Wellness is the private beach access they offer! The beach is a short walk away from the resort, approximately 10 minutes with the most amazing views on the way down. The hotel hosts also are available to escort guests down on a golf cart. Once in the area of the beach, there are signs pointing downwards to Agia Pelagia. Follow the winding ramp and shallow stairs down, then boom, you’ll be on a quiet, small piece of heaven. The waters are calm and crystal clear and the rocky sand is warm. There appeared to be one restaurant/bar along the shore, but it was closed when we were there. I’m not sure if they were closed because the area wasn’t fully open yet for the season or if they were permanently closed since Covid. Either way, from the beach, its a short walk back up a hill to the nearest restaurant, which is also a part of the Acro Wellness resort, located in their sister property.

Heraklion

After two days on the resort in Agia Pelagia, we took a cab back to Heraklion where we spent a day before our flight out to Athens. In Heraklion we stayed at Capsis Astoria, which is perfectly located in the center of the city. It is a short walk away from several restaurants, street vendors, bars, a shopping area and a central transportation (cab and bus) pickup/dropoff hub. Heraklion definitely has more of an urban city vibe than Agia Pelagia. In addition to enjoying the delicious food, I would also recommend checking out a winery or two in the area.
